Alberto Urroz is one of the most brilliant and multitalented Spanish pianists of his generation. He has performed throughout Spain, France, Germany, England, Austria, Italy, Israel, Norway, South Korea and the United States where he debuted, sponsored by the Consulate General of Spain, at Carnegie Hall in New York City (2008). Since his first performance with the Navarra Symphonic Orchestra at the Gayarre Theatre in Pamplona, Mr. Urroz has given recitals at the most important halls and festivals in Spain, including the Peralada and Santander International Festivals, Madrid Auditorium, Conde Duque Auditorium, Juan March Foundation, San Fernando Fine Arts Royal Academy and Royal Conservatory of Music. He has been invited by prestigious Spanish and international cultural institutions such as The City University of New York, Iberian Foundation for Spanish Music (NY), Las Canals and Hyères Festivals (France), Italian Institute of Culture (Madrid, Strasbourg), Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opus Musica (London), German Embassy (Madrid), Georgia State University (USA) and Sejong Center (Seoul).
Born into a musical family, Mr. Urroz graduated with honors from the Royal Conservatory in Madridwhere he studied with Joaquín Soriano. After winning the Jeunesses Musicales 1993 Piano Competition in Madrid, he moved to Israel to study at the Tel-Aviv University with Pnina Salzman, and later, on a Navarra state scholarship, to New York where he was a student of Oxana Yablonskaya from 1996 through 1999. He has also been a student of Solomon Mikowsky and Donn-Alexander Feder at Manhattan School of Music and was awarded a Hartt Talent Scholarship from the University of Hartford (USA). Other teachers include György Sandor, Fanny Waterman, Ana María Trenchi and Ena Bronstein.
An enthusiastic performer of chamber music, Mr. Urroz has been finalist of the Emerson String Quartet Competition and plays regularly with renown artists such as Oxana Yablonskaya, Laure de Marcellus, Andion Fernández, Pedro León, Vadim Tchijik, Azherbaijan State Choir, the American company Dance Theatre of Harlem and many other outstanding musicians of his generation.
Alberto Urroz is a Piano Professor at Alfonso X Univresity in Madrid and a renown piano teacher and head of the piano department at Arturo Soria Madrid Conservatory. He is a founding member of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) in Spain where he serves as secretary. He has been invited to give masterclasses in Atlanta and Seoul and has recorded for the Spanish Radio and Television and for the KBS Radio in South Korea.
Since 2004, Urroz is Founder and Artistic Director of the Mendigorría International Music Festival (Spain), a highly praised festival in Northern Spain. As Artistic Director, he has programmed more than a hundred concerts. A fan of all arts, he is specially attached to dance and painting. He has being the curator of too very successful productions: a Liszt Via Crucis stage performance with contemporary dance and the event Sound&Silence which reflects on art with paintings inspired by musical works.
On March 2015, Alberto Urroz´s first commercial recording “Spain Envisioned” has been released on the prestigious label Ibs Classical, featuring master works by Falla, Albéniz, Granados, Mompou and the world premiere recording of Martín Sánchez Allú´s Beatrice di Tenda Fantasy, a masterpiece of Spanish music composed in 1851 that had remained forgotten since then.
Alberto Urroz is committed to environment and loves gardening. He devotes some hours a week to Ikebana, Japanese flower art, to relax and to connect with nature.
